Our Commitment to Diversity:

The Jewish Community Center of Sonoma County is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment for all staff and children. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply.

ROLE OVERVIEW:
We are seeking passionate and organized individuals to create a nurturing, creative, and inquisitive learning environment for children ages 2-5. Teachers will be expected to help young children develop into compassionate and inquisitive individuals, who care for the environment and their community.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interactions with Children and Classroom Duties:

  • Safety and Management: Continuously monitor children ensuring they are under supervision at all times. Maintain and implement procedures to ensure their safety, complying with licensing regulations. Maintain a clean and organized learning environment both inside and out. Sanitize surfaces, toys, and equipment as required. Routinely check classroom equipment and materials to ensure they are in good repair.

  • Community and Relationships: Interact with children, families, co-workers, and administrators kindly, respectfully, and with compassion. Maintain open lines of communication with parents and promptly notify parents when individual issues arise, in addition to regular conferences.

  • Inspire: Plan, implement, reflect upon and document developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school. Gear the program to the needs of the individual child with concerns for their interests, individual style and stage of development; and to the class as a group.  Help each child to become aware of their role as a member of the group, while reinforcing positive self-esteem, as well as consciously promoting a diverse and anti-bias atmosphere.

  • Role Model: Positively facilitate personal anger, frustration, excitement, and other emotions.

  • Classroom Environment: One of respect where the social and emotional welfare of the children is protected to the best of the teacher’s ability, and the culture of creativity and learning is fostered. Intentional, ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, and appropriate learning environment of the indoor learning space and outdoor environment.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and consistently up-to-date individual portfolios, which document children’s learning, growth, and development with photos and anecdotal notes, as well as classroom documentation making children’s learning visible. Send weekly newsletters and daily reflections through school communication systems.

  • Professional Development: Create and work towards mutually agreed upon goals of an annual professional growth plan set with a supervisor, including meeting the required minimum of 105 hours of approved professional training every five years. Attend all staff meetings and be accountable for all information disbursed at such meetings and in written format. Participate in recommended professional development programs and in-service workshops and other opportunities for professional growth.

  • Center-wide responsibilities: Understand and uphold all policies and procedures outlined in the personnel and parent handbooks. Uphold the mission and act as an ambassador of the center. Participate in Center-wide functions that extend beyond regular school hours including but not limited to Back to School Night, Sukkot Picnic, Hanukkah celebration and other family events. Respect confidentiality of school-related information.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Associates Degree or higher, BA or higher preferred. Minimum of 6-12 ECE units required. Hold (or qualify for) a Child Development Teacher Permit. Working knowledge of child development theory and practice, and a basic understanding of preschool licensing requirements.

  • Experience: 2-4 years teaching experience in early childhood education.

  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills that engage children and adults. Basic computer skills, including ability to use school applications.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Physical Demands: Caring for children can be physically demanding. A teacher will occasionally be lifting and carrying children and equipment and will spend time sitting on the floor and child-sized furniture. Additionally, they may come into contact with children who are ill and/or contagious and must take precautions to ensure health and safety of all children, parents, staff, and themselves. Teachers will help children with toileting as necessary, from diaper changing to support learning specific self-help skills needed to become independent in self-care.

  • Environmental Conditions: On site in Santa Rosa, 95404 zip code. All preschool and center employees will be working in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and teachers will need to make quick decisions about how to best supervise and support all children at all times.
